NEWoMan TAKANAWA: Imagination Project
NEWoMan Takanawa: Imagination Project is a site-specific public art installation created for NEWoMan Takanawa, LUMINE’s largest commercial development to date and a new urban initiative in Tokyo that brings together culture, education, live performance, commerce, and living spaces.
The project redefines large-scale digital signage as a permanent public artwork and an artistic form of branding that expresses both the character of Takanawa and the identity of NEWoMan. It consists of a tall vertical signage system, a wide horizontal interactive display, and a transparent display integrated into the architecture.
The Base Grid
At the core of the system is the Base Grid, a flexible and ever-evolving visual structure inspired by the historical origin of the name Takanawa, meaning “a straight road on high ground,” a name that has existed since the Edo period. The grid continuously expands and contracts through a system-driven process, generating ever-changing compositions. Within this grid, three immersive works are enveloped and revealed: Imagination Ocean, Imagination Garden, and Imagination Type. The Base Grid also incorporates photographs and illustrations created from diverse perspectives, offering artistic interpretations of Takanawa and NEWoMan Takanawa.
Imagination Type
Imagination Type translates words that define Takanawa into flexible, kinetic motion graphics that stretch, contract, and shift dynamically.
Imagination Garden
Imagination Garden transforms each visitor’s individuality into blooming flowers, expressing imagination as diverse, living forms that stimulate creativity.
Imagination Ocean
Imagination Ocean depicts a layered sea where particles, lines, and flows merge, forming an abstract landscape in which people, data, and memory converge toward the future.
